MARTEDì 16 FEBBRAIO 2010
Went to the RHP European conference in Athens, Greece, last week. Two days full of information, networking, getting to know each other and the different approaches of the local church towards refugees all over Europe. Members from Austria, Bulgaria, Chech Rep., Denmark, England, Finland, France, Greece, Germany, Holland and Italy gave a report on the refugee situation in their countries. We even managed to squeeze in a visit to the Helping Hands center, where we helped to make food packages that were handed out later to 50 refugee families. Were all rather shocked by the intensity of the neighbourhood: homeless people, addicts, dealers, prostitutes, alcoholics, all concentrated in an area of about 4 city blocks, and among those the refugees, immigrants and local residents. Food for thought.
Confirmation of the fact that it is not easy to move from one country to another, and that the possibilities of getting asylum and finding a job and housing in the other countries are more or less the same.
